Google continues to test and introduce new ways to make their AdSense ads more profitable and useful. Their latest innovation is sliding ads. I first spotted it on a client’s website. It was active on a banner ad (468×60) and displayed left and right buttons for cycling (sliding) through ads. The video below shows what the new ad display looks like and how it works.

Philipp Lenssen at Google Blogoscoped recently reported on a new code/policy change with the clickable area of AdSense ads. In his entry, Google Redefines the Clickable AdSense Area, he stated:
Similar to what Google has been doing with ads in search results, they also now restricted the clickable area in AdSense (the kind of Google ads webmasters can include on their pages). Instead of allowing a click to be triggered in a broad rectangle around the text — which used to include whitespace in that area — you must now click specifically on the underlined title or the colorized URL below ...

Search Engine Roundtable is sounding the alarm for anyone who has created a Made for AdSense (MFA) website and is using AdWords to drive traffic. They cite this recent WebmasterWorld.com thread as proof. Publishers are reporting that their AdSense accounts are being terminated, because of their MFA websites.
The practice that’s being targeted by Google is simple. Create a website that fully utilizes AdSense to show high priced ads and then drive traffic to the site using AdWords. Webmasters who have mastered this technique currently make up to $70,000 per month (before AdWords expenses).
The scheme works by making more money from ...

Google started rolling out their new AdSense Referral product on Thursday night. Here’s a step-by-step walkthrough of their new product that is in beta — shocking, I know.
Referrals
Google Referrals allow you to choose specific products or keywords as ads on your site. This allows you to match content directly to the ads and encourage users to complete the action associated with the ad.
To start, pick up to 15 products below and add them to the “Ad Shopping Cart” to the right. You should also choose up to 10 keywords to ensure you get newer ads matching those keywords as they ...

Google has debuted a new AdSense Referrals product. Although AdSense has supported referrals for a handful products and services (AdWords, AdSense, Firefox, etc…) for some time, the new referral program is a dramatic change for the product. The email message being sent out states the following new features:
Earn extra revenue on a cost-per-action basis
Select ads from hundreds of AdWords advertisers as well as our standard Google product offerings
Select a list of relevant keywords for your site and let Google figure out the best ads for your site
Customize your referral ads to match the look and feel of your site
Track the ...

The Google AdWords team recently announced the release of an ad preview tool for location targeting.
The search results and ads are not active, so you can preview at will without accruing impressions or accidental clicks. Best of all, you can refine the results page by adding location attributes and values manually to the URL of the ad preview page. Optional attributes include a target country, longitude/latitude coordinates, regions, and cities. In the U.S., you can also set a target ZIP code or designated market area (DMA).
Although the new tool is useful, it’s not easy to use. In order to make ...

Google Analytics was announced today, and it’s a big step forward for webmasters and web metrics.
Urchin, which Google bought earlier this year and used as a foundation for Analytics, was a nice product. A little expensive, but the reports were definitely a step ahead of the competition. The installation was hideous, though, since the application was web-based and the installation on OS X came with an entire Apache server. But because it was web-based, it was an obvious choice for Google to use as a basis for a hosted service.
Traditionally, your web reporting software needs access to ...

Google Adsense has the power to make very little money, or a tremendous amount of money, all on the same website. The disparity in income usually comes from poor ad placement, colors, and ad types.
Google Adsense Colors
There are generally three schools of thought regarding the color of Google Adsense ads on a website.
Mimic the Color Scheme of the Website
Many people have had success making their Google Adsense ads the same color as their website’s navigation and text. It’s believed that this works well, because similar colors blend in well with the entire website, and many users will click on ads, ...
