For many people, today is the first day back to a regular work schedule since the winter holidays. And early January is usually a time for goal-setting and idealistic resolutions, so while you’re in that frame of mind, may I make a few suggestions?

A lot of us at Sitening are big fans of Google: their innovative products, their successes, their playful-yet-productive culture, etc. We happily use a lot of their tools and, for the most part, the tools are quite good. Even in a few cases (Gmail, Google Calendars, etc) best of class.

Similar to the music industry, there’s an increasing number of authors that are seeking to usurp the publishing industry by self-publishing. Until now, the main options that aspiring authors had were e-books (glorified PDFs) and print-on-demand services, like Amazon.com’s BookSurge. However, Lulu appears to have successfully combined those abilities, along with a viable community, an e-commerce store and a long list of author services.

My PayPal Security Key came in the mail today. If you’re not familiar with the PayPal Security Key, it’s a small electronic device that produces a secret code that’s designed to make PayPal and eBay access more secure. The key is an oval shaped pieced of plastic with a button and a display. It also comes with a small, but heavy duty key chain attachment.
