Today at SMX West I gave a presentation with Christine Churchill, Alex Cohen, Cady Condyles and Stoney deGeyter. My part of the presentation was to give you some keyword research strategies that involved using your web analytics, PPC and user testing, and a variety of other techniques that you wouldn’t normally be taking advantage of. Below is my presentation which you are able to download via SlideShare.

Oh, PubCon Vegas. We at Raven had a great time hanging out with friends and meeting with new friends. Although my laundry basket faintly smells like the Breeze Bar (coconut, vanilla, cigarette smoke… basically your crazy Aunt’s sedan), I am officially unpacked, and by this weekend I should be back on Central Time Zone. The Raven team posed for lots of pictures. We had to model that fantastic PubCon t-shirt somehow. Let’s all take a walk down memory lane to last weekend, and maybe this will actually help some people remember what happened at PubCon ...

We’re excited to announce our limited edition PubCon Vegas 2009 t-shirt. We made less than 500 of them and they were made specifically for PubCon Vegas 2009. You can grab one of these shirts for free only at our PubCon booth in the exhibit hall. It’s first come, first serve. We expect them to go quickly, so come early!
We have a women’s and men’s version, both of which are printed on super-soft American Apparel t-shirts. The women’s tee comes in Rasberry and the men’s tee comes in Army Green. These are the designs that will be on the front of ...

Hot off the heels of ThinkTank 2009, DK, of Purpose Inc, is ready to keep the fun going with his annual Texas Holdem Poker Tournament at PubCon. This year the tournament includes free drinks from 8:00PM to 2:00AM (holy crap!).
This is a charity event, and proceeds this year go to the charity of your choice (very cool!). Space is limited, so you should go ahead and signup now before it fills up. I went to the tournament last year and it was a lot of fun. I particularly enjoyed watching Brian Chappell get to the final table, all while giving ...

We can’t wait for PubCon Las Vegas. The office has been buzzing as the last details are put into place. It feels a little scary to cross this many things off of my todo list, but I’m also excited about Raven’s Gold Sponsor for PubCon (our first major sponsorship of anything!). I’m still not sure how everything is going to get from Nashville to the booth.
I’ve been putting together a list of things to take or do for the Vegas trip. This is what I have so far:
Alyson’s PubCon Tips
A light jacket. Who knows it might get chilly.
Breath mints or ...

Over the weekend I had the pleasure in not only attending BarCamp Nashville, but speaking on two different panels. This was the third BarCamp held in Nashville, and was further proof that not only is there tons of talent in this town, but the sense of community is very alive and well. Major kudos goes out to Chuck Bryant and the rest of the planning team for a virtually flawless event in an even more perfect venue than I ever could’ve imagined.
My first panel of the day was Don’t Spew Link Vomit: Brand the Good Stuff! I had the absolute ...

This Saturday is the 3rd annual BarCamp Nashville, as well as the inaugural Ignite Nashville, both of which I’m very happy to be participating in. One of the bigger misconceptions about Nashville is that this isn’t a tech town, but with BarCamp’s turnout last year of over 600 people, I think it’s safe to say that Nashville is one of the better emerging tech towns out there. And one of the great things about Nashville is that of the tech companies that are located here, everyone has carved their own special niche, and there is room for everyone to grow ...

One of the best things about going to industry conferences is learning new things. IM Spring Break (IMSB) was no different. Here’s what I learned…
Shana Is NOT British
The very first thing I learned was that Shana Albert (@TheNanny612) is not British. For some reason I had created an alternate reality of her, created by watching too many Nanny 911 episodes.
Women Should NOT Arm Wrestle Neil
Speaking of which, Shana, like many of the women at IMSB, lost arm wrestling matches to Neil Patel (@neilpatel). He somehow managed to win money for himself and Michael Darauch (@chiropractic), while still maintaining some degree ...

George Wright of Blendtec did the Wednesday Keynote address at PubCon 08 this morning. For his finale, he blended a rake. Enjoy!

A conference wouldn’t be a conference without free swag. I always look forward to the exhibitor booths at PubCon — partly for learning about a new services, but mostly for free swag!
This year, there were the usual free pens, ugly t-shirts and the like. Microsoft had some neat dice that glowed. Nobody knew what they were for or how they worked, but they went quickly. Google had some very cheap yo-yos that spit out laser beams when you spun them. Unfortunately, Scott’s broke after the first spin.
My favorite swag came from Userplane and Izea. Userplane had four very well designed ...
