Two of the biggest challenges of running a niche Web site are what to write about, and what products you should mention and link to. In most cases, writers are limited to the products they can promote and earn from affiliate programs.
Fortunately, Amazon.com provides one of the oldest, easiest, and best affiliate programs available. Their inventory is unprecedented, which allows you to find and link to just about any type of product imaginable.
While the inventory of products at Amazon is helpful for getting just about any niche site started, it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be selecting the best products to ...

The art of being self-promotional is a natural tendency. In a cutthroat environment, it’s human nature to think of ourselves first. The justification for doing so is that somewhere down the line, we’ll benefit from it – whether it be financially or from a networking standpoint. We want people to like us, and we want them to buy our stuff. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not too much to ask, right?
With every development of technology, the marketers have followed – telephone, radio, television, and now the Internet. The Internet audience is a large one, and among that audience ...

Raven HQ is located in Nashville, Tennessee, right on what residents refer to as “Music Row.” On my drive into the office each morning, I pass a banner hanging outside a music company touting how many views one of their music videos has on YouTube. The banner also includes icons for Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. But what’s missing? The actual URLs for any of these social networks. You’re on Facebook? Great! Too bad I have absolutely no idea how to find you.
Yes, social media — and the Web itself, which is still a fairly young medium in the world of advertising ...

In a recent video on the Google Webmaster Central Channel, Matt Cutts was asked:
What do you predict will be the big changes to “search” as we know it today over the next 3 years? What are some of today’s trends that you believe will shape the future of Google search?
Matt’s response is fascinating. We read between the lines a little to help identify several new areas of SEO you should work to improve in 2010.
New Kinds of Data
First, Matt mentions that Google is always on the lookout for new kinds of data to search, such as email, patents, books and ...

If you have a high bounce rate on your website, you’re not alone. Analyzing the underlying factors which lead to a high bounce rate can be the difference between hitting your conversion target or consistently losing customers. A high bounce rate should be considered as 80% upwards.
To accurately measure the bounce rate metric, you need a pretty sizable amount of visitors. If your blog or website only gets around 50 visitors and you have a high bounce rate, I would suggest waiting until you get your traffic up to at least 100 – 150 visitors p/day before you start measuring. ...

I mentioned in my last post about contributing something to the Internet when you’re marketing your website. If part of what you’re doing isn’t contributing anything at all, then you might as well pack up and go home.
Placing a large quantity of links on low-end sites just doesn’t work anymore. Gone are the days when you could leave links on social bookmarking sites and expect to see traffic and SERPs increase. The search engines have wised up and are now placing increased importance on quality (for both inbound links and content).
The quality of your campaign will be judged by the ...

When it comes to marketing your business online, there are many labels to sift through. The most common terms are:
Search Engine Optimization
Social Media Marketing
Conversational Marketing
User Generated Marketing
Experiential & Live Marketing
Engagement Marketing
Inbound Marketing
Evangelism Marketing
Un-Marketing
Relationship Marketing
Permission Marketing
Transparent Marketing
Most of these labels have successfully permeated the industry lexicon, but none successfully capture the essence of a modern marketing campaign. I’ve found that most of these labels and methodologies, like Inbound Marketing, aren’t sufficient in and of themselves to effectively market a website.
In my experience, the key element in modern website promotion is participation. With the exception of advertising models like Pay Per ...

WordPress does an excellent job at providing incredible content management features, while also keeping its CMS as secure as possible. However, there are still some things you can do to make it even more secure, even from Google (I’ll explain that in a minute.)
After you install WordPress, there’s still information that crude hackers can gain access to and exploit. The main items include:
Error-Messages via the Login form
WordPress version provided by the header and Readme file
Plugins folder returning public information
Really Simple Discovery designated in the header
Windows Live Writer enabled
Core Update messages enabled for non admins
Plugin Update messages enabled for non admins

While most Internet marketers stick to online methods for promoting websites, there are still some offline methods that work well. T-shirts — if you do them well and give them away — can make a big impact with target audiences. The only problem with t-shirts is that they’re expensive to make and distribute.
That’s where stickers come in. People love stickers! They like to put them on their vehicles, laptops and pretty much wherever they can stick them. Stickers are also easy to distribute. Here’s just a few ways you can give away stickers:
Conferences or Local Meetups
Postal Mail (either with ...

I was on a great Twitter Marketing panel with Dave Snyder, Lee Odden and Dan Zarrella at PubCon South 2009. My presentation focused on how to get started on Twitter, and how to best engage it to market your business. This article includes the notes and links that were in my presentation. Enjoy!
Getting Started with Twitter
Pick a good name. Free_ebook_4success is not a good name!
Fill out your profile. Upload a profile image, change your background image (customize it), fill out your bio and don’t use the word Expert or add a link that goes to Squidoo!
Don’t start off by “pimping” ...
