Link Building and Link Management Update

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Raven just launched a major upgrade to our link management system. It includes an update to the Link Manager, Website Directory, and the addition of a new Contact / Lead Manager for link building.

Improved Website Directory

The Website Directory is now faster and more informative. It includes a much bigger website snapshot and lists any links, contacts or tasks associated with it.

Smarter Add Link Form

Adding a new link via the updated Raven Firefox Toolbar is now a lot smarter. If you’ve created a link record for a website before, and then attempt to add a link to the same website, Raven will ask you if you want to create a new link or use an existing link record. This feature is perfect for links that were saved with the status of Queue or Requested, but have since then become Active.

There’s now a Contact Manager that can help you better manage relationships with website owners and editors.

SERP Tracker API Now Available

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

We’ve been testing the SERP Tracker API for quite some time. We’re excited to announce that it’s finally available for all Raven users. The API will enable developers to incorporate SERP tracking into their own applications.

The API allows you to add and remove keywords, and retrieve rank results. API keys are unique for each Profile in Raven, so you will need to generate a new API key for each Profile.

In order to access the API, you must be an account owner or sub-user with Admin rights. To create an API key, visit the Profile Dashboard page and click on the Get API Key link at the bottom of the page. When you click on it, it will generate a new key and also reveal links to the API documentation and API testing tool.

Check Readability & Keyword Relevance with the Content Analyzer

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

An old R&D project has finally seen the light of day. We had played around with copy analysis a long time ago, but got distracted with some other features we wanted to work on for Raven. Yesterday afternoon we stumbled upon this feature and decided to clean it up and push it live. We hope you like it and look forward to getting your feedback on it so we can make it better in the future.

This video will show you how to use the new analysis feature in the Content Manager.

How to Use the Social Media Monitor in Raven

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

We’re going to start ramping up the production of video tutorials in order to help Raven users get the most out of the tools. This video shows how to use Raven’s Social Media Monitor. The Social Media Monitor is included with all Raven accounts and allows you to setup virtually unlimited searches for all of the websites you’re managing. We think the Social Media Monitor is worth the price of Raven all by itself. Enjoy!

Introducing “kl.am” - The Link-Juice-Loving URL Shortener by Raven

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

I’ve been wanting to build a link shortener for quite some time. I knew with the mad skillz of RavenScott and RavenJason we could build a stronger, better and more powerful link shortener! So in the midst of PubCon Austin 2009, we did.

Introducing kl.am, the little link shortener that could. kl.am is used to “kompress” URLs into little URLs using all of its bivalve muscly might. You can create really tiny URLs or “kustom” URLs. It also redirects traffic using search engine friendly 301 redirects, and provides referral traffic statistics.

We’ll be using kl.am for several new Raven services, but you can use it for free as much as you want at http://kl.am

WordPress Plugin Released for Raven Analytics Tracking Code

Monday, March 16th, 2009

It’s always nice to debut new software that’s related to Raven’s Internet Marketing Tools. However, it’s even better when someone else has written it!

WordPress, a content management and blogging platform that we absolutely love, has an excellent plugin architecture that makes it easy for developers to extend its functionality. We had the fortune of having Thom Meredith, unbeknownst to us, create a WordPress plugin for Raven’s tracking and analytics feature. Thom is a great graphic designer and you should definitely check out his design portfolio. I had no idea he could code until he created this plugin!

Since our tracking code is similar to Google Analytics, the only unique part of the code is the ID number. When you install the Raven Analytics WordPress Plugin, it simply asks for the ID number and then automatically inserts the tracking code into your blog. It’s easy to install, and like most WordPress plugins, is free.

New Feature: Messaging and Alerts

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Messaging and Alerts

Messaging and Alerts gives you the ability to communicate and collaborate with other team members on your account. There’s a new Inbox link located on the upper left corner of your screen.

Messaging Screenshot

The Inbox works similar to popular messaging systems like Facebook. You can even start typing the name of a co-worker and they will automatically appear. You can also type all to send a message to everyone on the account.

Messaging Screenshot

You can even create contextual messages from any page in Raven by clicking on the new message icon, located next to the bug form icon.

Messaging Screenshot

When you create a contextual message, it will include a reference link in the message. Recipients will be able to click on the link and it will automatically change their profile and website to the referenced website and take them to the page the message was initiated on.

Messaging Screenshot

The messaging system also supports system alerts. For example, in the Link Manager you can choose to be notified if a link changes (e.g. disappears, nofollow is added, etc…) and you will be notified in your Inbox.

Messaging Screenshot

You can also specify how you get notified in your account settings. For example, you can specify whether or not you want email alerts for new messages, newly assigned tasks, overdue tasks and link change alerts.

New Raven Status Blog

Friday, September 5th, 2008

As we get ready to release Raven into the wild later this month, we felt like we needed an external website that would keep you up-to-date on the status of Raven. The new Raven Status site will be used in the following ways:

  • Updates on new tweaks, features and iterations
  • Known problems with the features
  • Updates on the status and fixes for problems

Also, in the very unlikely event that Raven can’t be accessed, you should check the Raven Status site for info and details.

Raven Prepares for Official Launch and New Firefox Toolbar

Monday, February 4th, 2008

We wanted to thank everyone who has been following our blog. The blog will be a bit sparse this week, because we’re putting the final touches on our Raven SEO Tools — implementing help and tutorials, squashing bugs and doing overall cleanup. Raven will officially launch next Monday and will be officially “out of beta!”

We’ll continue to publish the SEO Daily Reading and might be able to even squeeze out an in depth review of Market Motive, but other than that we’ll be hard at work polishing up Raven.

Stay tuned for more information about our official launch. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when we release our introductory pricing and also officially announce our new Raven Firefox toolbar (it’s rad!).
