Social media is something we live and breathe here at Sitening, and I like to fancy myself as a conversational marketing nerd. The medium is still fairly new however, and most companies wonder as they evaluate the possibility of implementing a conversational marketing plan into their traditional one if they are going to see a decent ROI on their investment. Thankfully, they are.
A new report on a study done by Wetpaint and the Altimeter Group shows that those companies that have engaged in conversational marketing, or social media, have “on average increased revenues by 18% in the last 12 months”. ...

Dodgy:
1. Evasive; shifty.
2. Unsound, unstable, and unreliable.
3. So risky as to require very deft handling.
As the SEO Manager at Sitening, it’s important to me that our client needs are not only met, but their expectations are exceeded. If we have to stay until 10 or 11pm to get the job done, then that’s what we’ll do. We’re all Search, Social Media and Internet Marketing geeks who love what we do (and we have the t-shirts to prove it).
However, one thing I’ve noticed with the proliferation of Social Media is the amount of people referring to themselves as Social Media Gurus, ...

If there’s one thing I covet more than anything these days, it is AT&T’s UVerse installed in my home. Who wouldn’t want all of that fiber bandwidth pumping into their house for unlimited HD options and awesome internet speed? I know it is close too. Neighbors are having it installed every day. The AT&T trucks are constantly working on adjacent streets. So where is my UVerse, AT&T? Never have you had someone more ready to shell out $100+ a month for your service, yet you are nowhere to be found.
By now there is no brand, Fortune 500 or not, that ...

In a Telegraph article on the success story behind Clippykit bags and accessories, the author finishes with advice for prospering during a recession:
Optimise your website. Keep driving customers to your website using PR and marketing and make your site ’sticky’. It’s your portal to world markets.

Of course as online marketers who specialize in website optimization we’re admittedly biased to think this is the best advice ever, but hear us out anyway: if your business is even partly conducted online (and how many these days aren’t?), you truly need to think about its effectiveness.
I sat down with ...

Building a great website is really only the beginning of your company’s journey through the web, even if sometimes it feels like the be all end all. Then you tackle content production, search engine optimization, and social media optimization. Done right? Website activate! Well, not so much.
Once everything is in place, someone needs to be there to manage the community and keep the content up-to-date. Frequent and meaningful content updates relevant to your brand keep users engaged and coming back to the site. Sometimes this can feel like a daunting task if you aren’t familiar with the tools of ...

As far as social media tools go, Twitter is easily my favorite. While I am by no means an expert (I’m not a fan of people calling themselves an expert at anything, even Tiger Woods), I’ve been around the Twitter block so to speak. A user for over two years now, I’ve seen Twitter go through some changes (remember when @ replies weren’t a feature and kept killing Twitter? Yup.) and lived to tell about it. Many companies, small and large, are jumping on the Twitter bandwagon these days, so I thought I’d lay out a few Rules of Twitter ...

For many people, today is the first day back to a regular work schedule since the winter holidays. And early January is usually a time for goal-setting and idealistic resolutions, so while you’re in that frame of mind, may I make a few suggestions?
Resolve to differentiate.
If you don’t know what makes your business stand out from your competitors, you can’t possibly optimize. Take the time to think about what your customers want from you, and what kind of customers you want. All effective internet marketing starts here. Heck, all effective marketing – online or offline – starts here. Make ...

A lot of us at Sitening are big fans of Google: their innovative products, their successes, their playful-yet-productive culture, etc. We happily use a lot of their tools and, for the most part, the tools are quite good. Even in a few cases (Gmail, Google Calendars, etc) best of class.
But when it comes to analytics and testing, I’ll admit it: I’m a snob. And it’s not because Google Analytics and Google Website Optimizer aren’t good tools — they are good tools, to be sure, and especially so considering they’re free tools — but they’re entry-level tools. And that’s fine. For ...

This year at BarCamp Nashville, I presented on how to make Google your prison slave. One of the concepts I talked about was the idea of capturing a competitor’s traffic through the use of product review websites. There are three key elements to this approach:
Keyword centric domain name
Reviews include good details and images of the competitor’s products
Every review includes a "Recommendations" section at the end, comparing and linking to your product page
The best way to create a site like this is to make sure it looks professional. You may want to consider building it on WordPress and then using a ...

There are many reasons to link out from your website. Sometimes it’s to link to a trusted partner or to a sister website. If you’re a search engine optimizer, you link out because it helps your website perform better on search engines (I’m not talking about link exchanges). However, there are still many websites, especially news oriented websites, that refuse to link out to external websites.
There’s an unfounded, but seemingly logical fear that linking out will lose the visitor. The formula seems simple enough; If you make a way for the user to escape your website, they will. Scott Karp, ...
