I just found this linkbait mentioned in my RSS reader. It’s a site called How Long Could You Survive Chained to a Bunk Bed with a Velociraptor?. To search marketers, this is an obvious attempt at building inbound links to improve search engine performance. Watch the video to find out what they did right and to get inspired for making your own linkbait.

Similar to the music industry, there’s an increasing number of authors that are seeking to usurp the publishing industry by self-publishing. Until now, the main options that aspiring authors had were e-books (glorified PDFs) and print-on-demand services, like Amazon.com’s BookSurge. However, Lulu appears to have successfully combined those abilities, along with a viable community, an e-commerce store and a long list of author services.
Instead of pushing items into a vast sea of publications, like Amazon.com, they’ve created their own niche community of writers. And unlike Amazon.com, their store is not cluttered and distracting, which makes it much easier to browse ...

If there’s anything important or interesting going on in technology, then you’ll probably find it on TechCrunch. TechCrunch has become the source for technology industry news and they spend much of their time obsessively profiling and reviewing new Internet products and companies. They’ve actually taken that one step further with the (re)introduction of CrunchBase. CrunchBase is a free directory of technology companies, people, and investors that now anyone can edit.
Although anyone can edit the directory, it appears that all edits are heavily moderated, which I consider to be a good thing. It ensures the quality of the data and ...

One of my favorite news websites is was ABCNews.com. They recently redesigned their website and destroyed most of what I liked about it. Their old design was similar to the New York Times. They had an easy to read home page that made all of the headlines visible. I could quickly scroll down the page and view all of the top stories. The only interactive component on the website was an image gallery that was related to the top five stories they were promoting. It acted as a slideshow and allowed the user to pause and click through the different ...

There are a lot of websites for sale at any given time. Often times, webmasters will create new websites, stuff them with content (often stolen from other well performing websites) and then ramp up the traffic with unscrupulous traffic generating schemes. They do all of this in the attempt to sell it as a content rich, highly trafficked website to unsuspecting buyers. Those type of websites make up about 90%-95% of the sites that are currently up for sale.
Every now and then a golden egg appears. It’s a site that is mature, has tons of original content, has excellent coverage ...

When I was first asked to write a sponsored review for a new free font website, I expected to see another quickly slapped together site that had static font samples and a difficult download process. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Urban Fonts was nothing like I expected.
Built with a modern look and feel, Urban Fonts offers a refreshing way to find, sample and download fonts. The interface is clean and the AJAX features allow you to quickly determine which font is right for you.
Finding Fonts
If you’re looking for a particular font, then the search feature will work well ...

Every now and then I like to do quick site reviews for search engine optimization. Most sites suffer from the same problems — lack of semantic structure, poor information architecture and using images in place of text-based titles.
CardroomSupply is a perfect example of one such site. They were thinking about redesigning their site and paid Sitening to do a quick site review for them.
The first thing I did was run their site through our SEO Analyzer tool. They ended up with a score of 45 out of 100 — view report.
The most notable problem was an absence of semantic structure. ...
